And I'll confess, I was never a true Regency fan until after that movie came out. lol When I write my Regency heroes, I always think of Firth in Darcy's shoes...and the rest of his clothes, of course. A ...Lady A may be on to something about worm-holes. A monk I once knew had been a NASA engineer (he designed the trajectories of the Space Shuttle may decades ago.) He had concluded that we weren't going to get very far dragging these mortal bodies around via heavy hunks of metal transport, so he turned to a monastic life and the study of teleportation and out-of-body experience. No kidding.
On the other hand, regarding Colin Firth and the worm-hole effect: I spent most of my adult life working with actors, and have been one. When playing certain parts some actors have an experience of "possession." This experience of "possession" is fundamental to certain types of performance in India.
And what of our own work? I once asked a playwright, after seeing a play of his about an historical person -- a play that was strikingly "real" in its insights -- how he accounted for this. He wouldn't answer me at the time, but sent me a postcard of a tori: a Japanese spirit gate.
Maybe, like my monk friend, we shouldn't look for worm-holes in the great reaches of space, but here?Katherine Ashehttp://www.katherineashe.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-28648460809932654242011-10-30T09:46:01.403-07:002011-10-30T09:46:01.403-07:00I confess, my armoire door burst open & I bolt...I confess, my armoire door burst open & I bolted forth to a future of authorship, as the beautiful Colin Firth stepped quite fatally into those Assembly Rooms. I have looked around me and marveled at such things as fan fiction, conferences, and continued movie spin-offs. I have adored Jane Austen since I was a little girl so I was highly amused and pleased when that movie came out and helped my friends and family to understand why I thought she was the best of novelists.Sophia Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01389029835067242765noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-8114844994236719742011-10-30T07:58:15.787-07:002011-10-30T07:58:15.787-07:00I am old enough to have fallen head over heals in ...I am old enough to have fallen head over heals in love with the 1995 "P&P" from the moment it emerged at point B. How well I remember indulging in the hour after hour bliss of Darcy and Elizabeth's love story. I own it now, of course, and make a yearly practice of the same hours-long indulgence. Mr. Firth in the role of Darcy surely did touch off a modern explosive craze for Everything Austen with Jane Austen herself having lit the lasting fire which fed it. A beautiful post.
