She was undoubtedly a great ruler but as a person she was ruthless. Katherine Grey was not unfortunately for her an ordinary woman, she was far too close to the throne but it's so hard to read of her loneliness and despair two feelings which are eternal and ageless!) I will always remember the ring she sent to her husband before she died 'While I Live, Yours.' Four words that I would be glad to hear today or something similar from someone I loved.Poetry Loverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03897921211381160856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-63058143677623850812016-04-21T09:12:07.021-07:002016-04-21T09:12:07.021-07:00Like 'The Other Boleyn Girl' this is a fas...Like 'The Other Boleyn Girl' this is a fascinating but sad story of a lesser known sister, too close to the throne. Elizabeth never married herself but was jealous of those who did and had children, a case I think of a 'dog in the manger' attitude. In a time of fluctuating loyalties, this love, faithful till death moved me. Even the Queen could not command love or its endurance even if she could punish those who dared to go against her wishes. She was definitely a great monarch, one of the best England has ever seen but I have never believed in her as a woman with feelings. Even her flirtations with various men at court were a demonstration of her power as she played them off against each other, also toying with foreign princes who she might or might not marry.Poetry Loverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03897921211381160856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-36244707465685942232014-06-29T10:57:42.967-07:002014-06-29T10:57:42.967-07:00Having recently discovered, through the use of Anc...Having recently discovered, through the use of Ancestry.com, that Lady Catherine Grey is one of my ancestors, it has been interesting to learn what I can about her. I do look forward to reading "Three Maids of a Crown" so that I can learn more about the life of this ancestor.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03394284336482550658noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-72898963941200570582012-03-24T12:06:42.808-07:002012-03-24T12:06:42.808-07:00Wonderful and fascinating post about these Tudor d...Wonderful and fascinating post about these Tudor descendants. I think she believed to the end of her life that at some point Queen Elizabeth would relent. In one of the worst cases of bad timing ever, Katherine's sister Mary also eloped. Tiny Mary's choice? A 'giant', Elizabeth's Sergeant Porter, Thomas Keyes. They could not have been considered a threat to the throne, which is why Mary probably thought she could get away with it. Unfortunately, Elizabeth Tudor found out about the marriage right after she got the news that Katherine had gotten pregnant while imprisoned in the Tower. Her Majesty was NOT amused...Ella March Chasehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03919845846213667386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-19354375794865987072012-03-17T19:05:29.787-07:002012-03-17T19:05:29.787-07:00Fascinating history, how one family member can so ...Fascinating history, how one family member can so fear another and cause them such pain throughout their life was remarkable.Elizabeth Gayle Fellowsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2456802468539868519.post-50955829876869465862012-03-17T17:43:20.255-07:002012-03-17T17:43:20.255-07:00That was a great post.
