The name, as I understand it comes from the Saxon 'Moot' meaning meeting/meeting place which was by the prominent spring near the house. <br />I know the Whistler room very well having been up on a scaffold tower, etctera all over it. I would have to disagree that it is Whsitler's most beautiful work. He was at odds with Maud Russel who wanted something very restrained - wallpaper, basically - and rumour has it the most colourful and elaborate part of the work was painted while Maud was away one weekend.
