This desire went right up to Sir Robert Boyle (1627-1691), a brilliant scientist whose work is still important today (Boyle's Law, about the pressure of gases). Unlike Dee and Kelley, Boyle was not that interested in creating gold or silver; he was already the richest man in Britain, after the king. He was an extremely devout Christian and not only believed in angels but believed Alchemy could put him into communication with them. I had known about John Dee's efforts, and even the crazy wife swap that Kelley talked him into, but never knew before today what had become of Kelley. So thank you Nancy for answering that question for me.
